The Story of Valiente
A lion cub was playing in the savannah one afternoon, chasing a butterfly. Suddenly, he heard his friends cry out in fear and he heard the grunts and growls of hyenas. Lion sprinted as fast as he could in the direction of his friends’ cries. He reached the edge of a hill and hesitated. When Lion looked down, he saw his two best friends surrounded by three snapping hyenas.
Lion was scared. He wanted to run away and hide. But he knew if he did that, he would be leaving his friends to get hurt. He needed to be brave. Lion took a deep breath and bounded down the hill toward his friends and the hyenas. Lion mustered up all the courage he could and roared as loud as he could as he charged toward the hyenas. The hyenas were so startled by the noise and the dust the lion was kicking up, they ran off.
Lion found the strength to be brave even when it would have been easier to run and hide. Because of his bravery, he was able to help his friends.
